Countywide : 2 Judges Elevated to Superior Court

Gov. George Deukmejian on Monday elevated Orange County Municipal Court Judges David C. Velasquez and Randell L. Wilkinson to vacancies on the Superior Court.

Velasquez replaces the late Superior Court Judge Samuel Taylor, and Wilkinson replaces Superior Court Judge John Flynn, who retired.

Velasquez, 39, of Mission Viejo, was appointed to the bench in 1988 and has been serving as a Municipal Court judge in Laguna Niguel. He served as a deputy district attorney in Los Angeles and Orange counties from 1981 to 1988 and was a staff attorney for the Legal Aid Society from 1978 to 1981. Velasquez earned his bachelor’s degree from Cal State Los Angeles and his law degree from Loyola University.

Wilkinson, 39, of Tustin, was appointed to Municipal Court in 1986. He was a deputy district attorney in Orange County for nine years before his appointment to the bench. Wilkinson received his bachelor’s degree and his law degree from Brigham Young University.

Wilkinson and Velasquez will be assigned to the Santa Ana courthouse.
