Oliver Butterworth; Writer of Children’s Books

Oliver Butterworth, 75, whose children’s book “The Enormous Egg” was made into a play seen widely on stage and television. Butterworth was also known for such children’s books as “The Trouble With Jenny’s Ear” and “The Narrow Passage.” “The Enormous Egg” was produced on television by NBC Children’s Theater. Butterworth also taught writing and literature at Hartford (Conn.) College for Women for 41 years. His other books include “A Visit to the Big House,” “The First Blueberry Pig” and the just-completed “Orrie’s Run.” In West Hartford, Conn., on Sept. 17 of cancer.
