Protest to Stop 'Generations' Gap: The National Assn. for the Advancement of Colored People, decrying a dearth of positive roles for blacks on television and in the movies, joined a campaign Wednesday to save "Generations," NBC's multiracial soap opera, from the ax. NAACP officials said it would urge its 1,700 chapters to lobby NBC affiliates to prevent the show from being dropped from any more daytime lineups. The show's creator-executive producer, Sally Sussman, said at a Capitol Hill news conference that "Generations" was broadcast on 99% of the network's 200-plus affiliated stations after it debuted in March, 1989, but now it is seen on only 92% of the stations. If more defections occur, she said, "at some point it will not be economically feasible for NBC to carry the show."
