WORLD : S. Africa Quake Kills 2 Miners

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa —
A magnitude 4.7 earthquake jolted the central South African city of Welkom and its gold fields early today, killing two miners and causing some surface damage.
The quake, preceded by a smaller tremor, began at 1:09 a.m., lasted several seconds and shook buildings across the city and in outlying areas, said mines seismic researcher Alexander Mendecki.
