Carlsbad : Race of Beds Not for the Sleepy

The Carlsbad Bed Race is set to roll this Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Grand Avenue between Madison and Jefferson.

The event will consist of a Parade of Beds, in which entries will be judged for originality, humor and creativity. A race over an obstacle course will follow from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. with more than 30 entrants.

Entrants will be divided into three categories--youth, community and business. Community leaders will judge the race. Prizes will be awarded to the top finishers in each group, and there will be consolation prizes as well.

Bed entries are made up of four people pushing and one person riding. Past entries have included themes such as baby cribs, M.A.S.H. units and Noah's Ark.

Sponsored by Carlsbad Magazine, the Carlsbad Village Merchants Assn. and Magic 102, the event will benefit both the Carlsbad Boys and Girls Club and the Carlsbad Girls Club.

A pancake breakfast will be held from 7 to 11 a.m. in the parking lot adjacent to the Housing and Redevelopment Department on Roosevelt Street. Cost is $2 and proceeds will go to the Boys and Girls Club of Carlsbad.
