A bank robber dubbed “the Mid-Wilshire bandit” by police was sentenced this week to 14 years in prison and ordered to pay nearly $4,000 in restitution to two banks.

Devere A. Jones, 28, suspected in as many as 20 bank heists in the Beverly Hills and Mid-Wilshire areas, pleaded guilty earlier this year to two robberies, of a Bank of America branch and a Wells Fargo Bank.

Jones of Los Angeles was captured March 21 by the Beverly Hills police, who began pursuing him after he held up a Bank of America branch on Wilshire Boulevard, authorities said.

Police said they found more than $1,200 stuffed into Jones’ socks and underwear when they apprehended him. Jones was tied to at least seven bank robberies in Beverly Hills alone, said Lt. Frank Salcido of the Beverly Hills Police Department.
