More than 100 Friends of the Santa Ana Zoo raised $5,500 at a dinner Wednesday to help develop a monkey habitat. “We have a ways to go in our fund-raising,” said Friends director Jacqueline Bourskens, “but as our first event it was a good start.” The Friends are trying to raise $200,000 toward the $600,000 cost of “Monkey Island,” which would house the zoo’s 16 species of monkeys. Work is to begin next spring. Tomorrow, the zoo’s educational department launches a series of Natural Science workshops for children and families, to continue through December. Fees vary and reservations are required. Information: (714) 836-4000.
