COUNTYWIDE : Hikers to Pay Fees at Some State Parks

Share

Some state parks will begin charging hikers and bikers $2, and parking fees at many parks have been raised to make up for a shortfall caused by a $16-million budget cut to the state park system, officials said Thursday.

Point Mugu State Park will raise the parking fee $2, to $6 a car. Point Mugu will also charge walk-in fees of $2 for adults and $1 for children over 6. The same fees will be charged at Topanga State Park and Will Rogers State Historic Park. San Buenaventura State Beach, which includes the San Jon beach area and the Ventura Pier, will charge $5 per car as soon as new parking equipment is installed.

The district also includes McGrath State Beach, Emma Wood State Beach and Carpinteria State Beach in Santa Barbara County, where parking fees have been raised from $4 to $5. Rincon Point, used mainly by surfers, will remain free.
