Nebraska quarterback Mickey Joseph was arrested Thursday after an incident at the apartment of his girlfriend, police in Lincoln, Neb., said.

Joseph, 22, was booked into Lancaster County Jail on suspicion of criminal mischief, a Class IV felony involving property damage of $300 or more, assistant police chief Jim Baird said.

He was released after posting $300, 10% of a $3,000 bond, corrections officials said.

Baird said Joseph allegedly broke an exterior window and damaged an inner window while trying to enter his girlfriend’s apartment.

Nebraska Coach Tom Osborne said it is his understanding that the girlfriend, her roommate and the apartment landlord do not wish to press charges.

Osborne said he was told Joseph was not involved in a domestic dispute and had gone over to his girlfriend’s apartment to pick up a class syllabus.

“I don’t plan any disciplinary action at this time,” he said.

Illinois quarterback Jason Verduzco, who sat on a bench on the sidelines after being pulled from the Illini’s 56-21 victory over Southern Illinois, apologized to the team.

Verduzco, a sophomore who started the first three games of the season, was pulled from Saturday’s game after SIU rolled to a 21-7 first quarter lead.

Verduzco then spent the rest of the game sitting quietly on a bench, often looking down, as his teammates stood along the sidelines and cheered.

“We had a couple of days off, and Jason has had a chance to think about things,” Coach John Mackovic said. “He and I had a nice talk, and he talked to his teammates.”
