Committee Declares New Fight on Blight
Ihave read your article on street savvy (“Translations From Ghetto Style, Sept. 19). I am very concerned about the graffiti artists being encouraged by the background that was used for the picture.
We are desperately trying to rid our city of the terrible blight of graffiti. The mayor and the city attorney are having a press conference on Tuesday for the purpose of announcing a new anti-graffiti sign depicting Penal Code 594 which describes punishment and fines for deteriorating public property.
I know it was not your intention to promote graffiti.
