Judge Refuses to Dismiss Love Canal Claim: A U.S. district judge denied a motion by Occidental Chemical Corp. to dismiss the state of New York’s punitive damage claim against the company, a unit of Los Angeles-based Occidental Petroleum, in the Love Canal pollution lawsuit. New York and the federal government are seeking $270 million in damages. The punitive damage claim is scheduled to be heard Oct. 23.
