Charles H. Christopher; Retired Civil Engineer

Charles Harold Christopher, a retired Caltrans civil engineer, has died in Hollywood. He was 56.

Christopher died Saturday of cancer, his daughter, Cathy Christopher, said.

Christopher was born June 8, 1934, in Los Angeles. He was graduated from Los Angeles High School in 1952 and earned a bachelor of science degree from USC in 1957. He was hired that year as a civil engineer for Caltrans and worked on freeway projects in Orange County until his retirement last month. From the late 1960s until the mid-1970s, Christopher was a member of the St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church Parents Guild.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Janice Christopher; sons Doug Christopher and Tom Christopher of Burbank; daughters Cathy Christopher and Margaret Christopher of Burbank; stepmother Mitzi Christopher of Los Angeles; brother Louis Christopher of Los Angeles; sister Genevieve Roberts of Los Angeles; and a grandson.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church, 133 N. 5th St., in Burbank. Burial will follow at San Fernando Mission Cemetery in Mission Hills. Valley Funeral Home in Burbank is handling the arrangements. Donations can be made in Christopher’s name to the St. Robert’s Development Fund at the church.
