Share

A man suspected of five Ventura County bank robberies in September struck twice more Wednesday in Oxnard and Camarillo, authorities said.

The robber held up the Santa Barbara Savings and Loan Assn. at 350 Esplanade Drive in Oxnard about 3:10 p.m. Half an hour later, a man fitting the same description robbed Valley Federal Savings and Loan, 2310 Ponderosa Drive in Camarillo, said Gary Auer of the FBI’s Ventura bureau.

In each of the seven robberies, the man has made oral and written demands for money and threatened to have a weapon, although no teller has reported seeing one, Auer said.

The FBI believes the same man also robbed two Port Hueneme banks and one each in Camarillo, Oxnard and Ventura in September, Auer said.

Imperial Savings, 2671 N. Ventura Road, and Bank of America, 755 W. Channel Islands Blvd., both of Port Hueneme, reported robberies on Sept. 19 and 21 respectively, Auer said.

First Nationwide Bank at 1055 S. Oxnard Blvd. in Oxnard reported a robbery Sept. 24. The Bank of A. Levy, 2499 Harbor Blvd. in Ventura, was robbed Sept. 26 and First State Bank of The Oaks, 470 Arneill Road, reported a robbery Sept. 28, Auer said.

Wednesday’s robbery was the 32nd since January, Auer said.

This is the second string of robberies in the county in recent months. In August, police arrested two men suspected of robbing eight banks.
