THE SIDELINES : LSU Petitions for Home Whites
The NCAA will consider changing a seven-year-old rule that would allow Louisiana State to wear white jerseys at home.
LSU wore white jerseys in Tiger Stadium until 1983 when the NCAA adopted a rule requiring the visiting team to wear white jerseys for all games and the home team to wear “jerseys of a contrasting color.”
In May, LSU Coach Mike Archer wrote to David Nelson of the NCAA’s Football Rules Committee asking that the rule be revoked. He cited the LSU tradition and asked that instead of mandating white for the home team, the NCAA merely require the home team to let the visitors know two weeks in advance what color they would be wearing.
