Lancaster Vice Mayor George Root has been released from Lancaster Community Hospital after surgery to unblock an artery near his heart, the city’s spokeswoman said Monday.
Root, a 60-year-old facilities manager for the Jet Propulsion Laboratory at Edwards Air Force Base, said it will be some time before he can resume a full workload because of the need to recuperate, spokeswoman Nancy Walker said.
Root was admitted to the hospital Sept. 30 after complaining of chest pains and was released Saturday, Walker said. Root took office earlier this year as the top vote-getter among more than a dozen candidates for the City Council in last April’s election. He was chosen vice mayor by the council.
