Marie Louise Soler; Longtime Canoga Park Resident

Marie Louise Soler, whose family ranch became a large part of Canoga Park, has died in West Hills. She was 86.

Mrs. Soler died Saturday of cancer, said her son, Joseph Soler.

Born Marie Louise Davancaze on June 6, 1904, in Bordeaux, France, she came to the United States in 1920 and married Manuel Soler in the early 1920s. She raised a family on a 200-acre ranch in Canoga Park--then called Owensmouth--until the family started selling the property in the late 1950s. She lived in the area for the rest of her life.

She is survived by her son, Joseph Soler of West Hills; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Her husband died in 1977.

Visitation is planned from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday and a rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m., both at Pierce Brothers Praiswater Mortuary, 7245 Remmet Ave., in Canoga Park which is handling the arrangements. A funeral Mass is scheduled for 9 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, 7117 Topanga Canyon Blvd., in Canoga Park with burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City.
