COLLEGE FOOTBALL REPORT : WEEKDAY UPDATE : UCLA : Phifer Latest Starter to Be Sidelined

UCLA Coach Terry Donahue is concerned about the status of outside linebacker Roman Phifer, who didn’t play against Arizona.

Phifer has a hamstring injury and will miss Saturday night’s game against San Diego State at the Rose Bowl.

Donahue isn’t sure when Phifer will play, saying that if it’s determined that he tore his hamstring, he could be out for the season.

Donahue also said that center Lance Zeno has a sprained foot and is doubtful for the San Diego State game. Cornerback Carlton Gray has a pulled muscle below his ribs but may be able to play.

Backup quarterback Jim Bonds has a dislocated little finger on his left, or non-passing, hand that required stitches. He injured his finger while playing catch in practice last Thursday. Donahue said he could play Saturday night, but it would have to be from a shotgun formation.

Nose guard Garrett Greedy has had a hamstring injury since the season began and still isn’t able to play.
