OXNARD : School Insurer Sues Alleged Arsonist

Share

The insurance company that covers Hueneme High School has filed a lawsuit against a teen-ager who allegedly started a Nov. 4 fire that caused more than $169,000 in damage at the Oxnard campus.

Industrial Indemnity Co. filed the suit Tuesday in Ventura County Superior Court against Tyrone Miller and his parents, Lewis and Evelyn Miller.

Police have declined to identify the three youths who allegedly set the fire because of their ages at the time of the incident. One Oxnard student, now 18, was sentenced to seven years and eight months in the California Youth Authority. A 14-year-old who acted as a lookout during the arson and a 16-year-old who kicked in a window to let the arsonist inside were found guilty of burglary in Juvenile Court and expelled from Hueneme High School.

The suit claims that Miller set the fire that damaged the school and that his parents are legally responsible for his acts.

None of the Millers could be reached for comment Wednesday.
