The Angels have released veteran catcher Bill Schroeder and purchased the contracts of three minor leaguers.

Schroeder, 32, who played at Milwaukee before joining the Angels in 1988, missed the first half of the 1990 season during recuperation from elbow surgery. He played in only 18 games this year, batting .224 with four home runs and nine RBI.

Another catcher, Ron Tingley, was assigned by the Angels to their Triple-A Edmonton affiliate in the Pacific Coast League, where he played most of 1990. Tingley appeared in five Angel games the past season.

The Angels also purchased the contracts of infielder Cris Cron and outfielder Mark Davis from Edmonton, and that of right-handed pitcher David Martinez from Midland of the Double-A Texas League. Martinez, the Angels’ first-round pick in the 1984 free agent draft, was 6-6 at Midland.
