I WANT YOUR SEX: That was the title of George Michael’s hit song, but hey--who hasn’t been singing about sex lately, whether it’s with class (like Whitney Houston’s new “I’ll Be Your Baby Tonight”) or with trash (like Warrant’s “Cherry Pie”)? Unfortunately, safe sex doesn’t seem to be a very hot topic these days. So it’s refreshing to see a funky young band like Tackhead promoting safe sex with their new single, “Dangerous Sex.” The band’s record label, SBK Records, has set up promotions with local Planned Parenthood groups. And when students pick up free condoms as part of a Safe Sex Week activity at UCLA and Santa Monica City College’s Health Services offices, they will also receive copies of Tackhead’s single. . . . Meanwhile, Tommy Boy Records knows that sex sells. So the New York label is hyping its new Digital Underground single by sending writers and radio execs packages of “Sex Packets” (which just happens to be the title of Digital’s album). The packets look like condoms, but actually contain candy. Some of the flavors are too risque to mention here, but the tamer ones include Interracial Orgy, Illegal in 14 States and Nympho Redhead.
