It doesn’t seem to matter what uniform he’s wearing, Laurie Boschman always performs well against the Calgary Flames.

Boschman, who has terrorized the Flames the past eight seasons while playing for Edmonton and then for Winnipeg, scored two goals Saturday night to lead the New Jersey Devils to a 5-3 victory over the Flames at East Rutherford, N.J.

“I don’t know if I’ll always do that well against them,” Boschman said. “It just so happened I had a few opportunities and was able to put them in.

“I played in that (Smythe) division for a number of years. I’ve scored my fair share of goals against Calgary.”

In 72 games against the Flames, Boschman has scored 28 goals.

Boschman scored his goals in the first two periods to help the Devils build a 4-0 lead.

The Flames scored three in the third to narrow the gap.

It was the Devils’ first win over the Flames since 1988.

With the win, New Jersey remained unbeaten on home ice this season (3-0-1).

New York Rangers 5, Washington 2--Troy Mallette provided the offense with a pair of goals and Mike Richter stopped 29 shots as the Rangers beat the Capitals at Landover, Md., for their fourth consecutive victory.

Richter, who beat Washington, 4-2, on Wednesday night, had a shutout until Michal Pivonka scored a power-play goal with 9:17 left. The 55-foot slap shot ended the Rangers’ string of scoreless periods at six.

Mike Gartner, Brian Leetch and Brian Mullen scored the other goals for the Rangers.

Calle Johannson scored the other goal for the Capitals.

Detroit 3, Toronto 3--The Maple Leafs, off to their worst start, picked up their first point of the season with a tie against the Red Wings at Toronto.

Toronto, which lost its first four games, pulled ahead with a shorthanded goal by Mark Osborne and a power-play goal by Wendel Clark in the third period.

But Clark from hero to goat with two miscues. After he gave Detroit’s Jimmy Carson the puck inside the Leaf blue line, he screened goalie Jeff Reese as Carson made a 25-foot shot, his second goal of the game, to tie the score.

The North Stars are going in the opposite direction with 1-4-1 start compared to 5-0-1 last season.

Buffalo 4, Quebec 4--Uwe Krupp scored a goal with 1:36 to play in regulation as the winless Sabres managed a tie against the Nordiques at Quebec.

Guy Lafleur had given Quebec a 4-3 lead with a backhanded shot over fallen Buffalo goaltender Darren Puppa with 5:09 to play.

Joe Cirella, Tony McKegney and Mike Hough scored the other Quebec goals. Pierre Turgeon scored twice for the Sabres, and Dave Andreychuk scored the other one.

Brian Skrudland and Denis Savard scored for Montreal.

Pittsburgh 6, New York Islanders 4--The Islanders lost more than a game at Uniondale, N.Y., they also lost their leading scorer, Pat LaFontaine, and starting goaltender, Glenn Healy, because of first-period injuries.

LaFontaine strained his left hamstring and Healy reinjured his ankle. Kevin Stevens led the Penguins with a goal and an assist.

Philadelphia 4, Winnipeg 3--Kjell Samuelsson’s first goal of the season helped the Flyers beat the Jets for their third victory in a row.
