Charges May Be Filed in Cemetery Shooting

The man who shot and injured an aspiring actress while filming a student movie in a Burbank cemetery may face criminal charges despite a police decision that the incident was an accident, authorities said Monday.

The Los Angeles County district attorney’s office will decide later this week whether to charge Christopher Wunsch, 30, of North Hollywood with discharging a firearm in a grossly negligent manner in connection with the Thursday night shooting.

The charge can be filed either as a misdemeanor or a felony, but that determination will be left to prosecutors, Burbank Police Sgt. Don Goldberg said.

Carol Ewing, 28, of Glendale was seriously injured when she was struck in the chest by a single gunshot, Goldberg said. Ewing was in stable condition Monday.

Wunsch and Ewing were actors in a film being made by Eric Sinohue, 28, of Pasadena. The crew was filming in the Pierce Brothers Valhalla Cemetery about 5:15 p.m. Friday. During one scene, Wunsch apparently leveled the gun he thought was unloaded at Ewing and fired a single round.

Sinohue, a student at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, was making the film to depict anger for a class assignment.

After interviewing Sinohue, Wunsch and Ewing, investigators ruled the shooting an accident.

“We don’t feel there was any intent on anyone’s behalf,” Goldberg said.
