Lillian McEdward, founder of the Screen Smart Set, which raises money for the Motion Picture and Television Fund, has died. She was 91.

Mrs. McEdward, the mother of film producer-director Blake Edwards, died last Tuesday at her Los Angeles home after a long illness.

A native of Kiowa, Okla., she was the wife of veteran assistant director Jack McEdward and had long been active in Hollywood philanthropic efforts.

In 1969, she created Screen Smart Set, which supports the Motion Picture Country Home in Woodland Hills, and in 1984 received its first Mary Pickford Award honoring those who make outstanding contributions to the group. Actor James Stewart was named the second recipient of the award earlier this year.

In addition to her son and husband, Mrs. McEdward is survived by four grandchildren and one great granddaughter.

A memorial service is planned for 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Louis B. Mayer Theater in the Motion Picture Country Home.

The family has requested that any memorial contributions be made to the Motion Picture and Television Fund.
