John Molle, a three-year starting forward at Irvine High School, has made an oral commitment to attend San Diego State and will sign with the Aztecs during the early-signing period in November, according to Irvine Coach Steve Keith.

Molle, who averaged 20.9 points and 7.5 rebounds per game, shot an Irvine record 89% from the free-throw line.

“He’s one of those do-everything types,” Keith said. “His versatility is his best feature. He rebounds, yet he plays point guard. I think he’s going to fit the big guard-shooting guard role in Division I.”

Said Molle: “(SDSU) had a lot to offer me--distance from my house, it’s on the West Coast and their business major is really good. Another good thing, it’s in my brother’s conference (the Western Athletic Conference).”

Molle’s brother, Raphael, plays on the Utah football team.

“Nothing better than to be your brother’s rival,” Molle said.

Molle also had home visits from UC Irvine, Cal State Fullerton and Tulsa. Molle, who has a 2.76 grade-point average, will major in business.
