Woman Rejects Suitor, Is Seriously Wounded

A woman who slammed her apartment door in Downey on an unwanted suitor was seriously wounded when he shot her twice as she rejected his gift of perfume and then fled, police said.

Police declined to identify the woman, but said that she did not know the man. However, he had brought flowers to her apartment twice in the last two weeks. This time he asked to come in for a drink, but she told him someone was with her and slammed the door. As she did, the shots went through the door, hitting her in the arm and side.

Downey Police Sgt. Mel Parks said that the victim is “recovering nicely,” adding that “we have some good leads but we haven’t caught him yet.”
