Garson’s Own Studio: Formal dedication ceremonies of the Greer Garson Communications Center and Studios, a state-of-the-art complex at the College of Santa Fe, were held over the weekend at the New Mexico campus. Garson, who had provided a $3-million gift for the complex, was reported unable to attend the event due to illness. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences had planned to use the occasion to award Garson an Oscar to replace one destroyed in a fire, for her 1942 best actress performance in “Mrs. Miniver.” Instead, the Oscar was put on display and will be awarded at a later date. Art Linkletter served as emcee for the ceremonies and comedian Billy Crystal did an impromptu routine.
