Support for Proposition C

Share

The Los Angeles League of Conservation Voters agrees with The Times’ position supporting Proposition C.

Now, more than ever, Proposition C deserves the support of all area residents. With the recently announced acquisition of almost 200 miles of existing tracks in Los Angeles County, some of which will be used to quickly expand our commuter rail systems, the funds provided by Proposition C are more important than ever.

By also expanding light rail and reducing congestion, not only will we cut pollution by 76,000 tons per year, but we will also go a long way toward reducing our dependence on foreign oil.

Proposition C is a common-sense approach to improving and expanding our mass transit systems. It will improve our bus fleet, replacing older, less efficient smoke-belching buses with cleaner-burning and more cost-effective vehicles, increase security on mass transit and provide local money for local transit-related projects.

Proposition C is criucial if we are to clean up our air, reduce congestion and enable Los Angeles County to move quickly and efficiently through the ‘90s, into the year 2000 and beyond.
