COLLEGE FOOTBALL REPORT : WEEKDAY UPDATE : USC : Family Tragedies Keep Oliver From Secondary

Share

Jason Oliver, a freshman cornerback from Bakersfield High School who made his first start for the Trojans Saturday against Arizona, will not play this week against Arizona State, Coach Larry Smith said.

Oliver’s father, Marvin, died from complications of tuberculosis last Thursday, less than four weeks after Oliver’s mother, Juanda, died of cancer.

“We told him to stay home and get his matters taken care of,” Smith said of Oliver, who will spend the week with relatives, including an 11-year-old brother.
