American General Corp.: The Houston-based financial services and insurance company reported that third-quarter income soared 62% to $151.1 million on revenue that climbed 9% to $1.14 billion. Assets were up 6% from a year ago to $33.6 billion. The company said a substantial amount of its profit this year has involved gains on the sale of stock.
