2 Dozen Hurt by Quake in India Subcontinent
A powerful earthquake centered in Afghanistan’s rugged Hindu Kush mountain range sent shock waves throughout the subcontinent early Thursday. Two dozen people were reported injured in this border city.
There were conflicting reports on the magnitude of the quake, which was felt as far away as New Delhi, the Indian capital.
Russ Needham, a spokesman for the the U.S. Geological Survey’s National Earthquake Information Center in Golden, Colo., said it had a magnitude of 5.6. Pakistan’s meteorological center initially reported a 7 reading, and India’s meteorology department recorded a 6.5 reading.
