COLLEGE FOOTBALL REPORT / WEEKDAY UPDATE : AZTECS : Luginbill Blasts Big Ten Conference

Share

San Diego State football Coach Al Luginbill wasn’t ready to discuss his team’s next opponent, Utah. But he did have some strong opinions on one of Utah’s opponents, Minnesota. When told that the Golden Gophers are undefeated in the Big Ten conference, Luginbill said: “That’s no big deal. If there’s an overrated conference in the nation, it’s the Big Ten. I’ll take a whole schedule of their guys over (Western Athletic Conference) teams . . . (The Big Ten) has been going down since 1980, but people are just now starting to realize it.”

Luginbill is still baffled by the Aztecs’ impressive turnover margin (plus seven) and unimpressive record (2-4). “We might be the only team in the country with a positive margin in the turnover category and a losing record. All the statistics would indicate that we should be having a pretty good year. But if we continue to have a high positive margin, I’d be very surprised if we didn’t turn things around.”
