The Toronto Maple Leafs, off to the worst start in their history (1-9-1), are looking for their 12th coach in 13 years after firing Doug Carpenter.
“Firing the coach doesn’t mean we will go 10-1-1,” forward John Kordic said. “There’s still a lot of problems.”
Defenseman Brad Marsh, who was stripped of his title as alternate captain by Carpenter, this week, said: “The effort from the coaching staff was there. We didn’t respond.”
However, Carpenter wasn’t popular with some of his players. Team captain Rob Ramage said this week that Gary Leeman was the anonymous player who said in a Toronto newspaper that Carpenter was the main reason the Leafs were off to a poor start.
