A teen-ager was fatally wounded Saturday in a fight outside a crowded North Hollywood dance club, and the alleged gunman was being held on suspicion of murder, Los Angeles police said.

Javier Rojas Romero, 19, was shot in the lower torso during the 2 a.m. fight outside La Zona Rosa Bar at 6411 Lankershim Blvd., Sgt. John Stilo said. Romero was taken by helicopter to Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills, where he died a short time later.

Eduardo Acosta Gastelum, 30, was being held Saturday without bail in the shooting, which ended a fight that began a few minutes earlier inside the bar, Stilo said.

“Basically, it was a bar fight that ended up in the street,” Lt. Ron LaRue said.

LaRue said officials from the Los Angeles City Fire Department and the state’s Alcoholic Beverage Control Department will investigate the bar for possible overcrowding and for serving alcohol to minors. LaRue said about 250 people were “packed” into the club, which Stilo said has been a trouble spot for police.

The cause of the fight was undetermined, Stilo said.
