Magic Johnson scored 11 of his 15 points in the first half and the Lakers beat the New Jersey Nets, 89-72, Saturday night in the exhibition final for both NBA teams.

The Lakers posted a 6-2 exhibition record despite shooting less than 50% from the field in all eight games. They shot 43% Saturday night, but the Nets (2-4) shot 35% and did not break 20 points in any quarter.

The Lakers led, 65-56, at the end of the third quarter. Sam Perkins made two free throws 36 seconds into the fourth quarter to start a 13-6 run that gave the Lakers their biggest lead, 78-62.

Vlade Divac scored all of his 13 points in the first half for the Lakers, and Byron Scott and Terry Teagle each scored nine of their 11 in the second half.

Chris Morris had 16 points for New Jersey, which is expected to announce the signing of No. 1 draft pick Derrick Coleman today.

The game was delayed 30 minutes because of condensation from the hockey surface under the basketball floor at the Northlands Coliseum.
