Recycling Will Increase Trash Fees in Stanton

Residents will be paying more for trash pickup next spring, with the increased fees going toward new “state-of-the-art” recycling services, Mayor Edward L. Allen said.

The city has approved a new waste-management contract with Stanton-based CR&R; Inc.

The new system, which begins next March, will sort out recyclable glass, plastic and newspapers out of the city’s trash, thus eliminating the need for residents to sort it.

The system allows Stanton to meet state requirements that cities must recycle at least 25% of their trash, Allen said.

For residents, the trash-collection fee will increase from $9.37 to $10.79 a month. Some businesses that require pickups nearly every day will pay $309 a month, up $55.

“This brings the city to a state-of-the-art rubbish pickup program. It’s going to expedite pickups. It’s neater, cleaner,” Allen said.
