Forgery Suspect Flees From Police Station
Los Angeles police were searching Monday for a forgery suspect who slipped out of her handcuffs and escaped through the back door of the Van Nuys station Sunday while officers processed her paperwork.
Katrina Marie Garcia, 34, was arrested about 4 p.m. Sunday on suspicion of forgery and unspecified parole violations. She was waiting to be admitted to the jail when officers noticed that she was missing about 5:15 p.m., police said.
“The woman apparently slipped out of her cuffs and walked out the back door,” Lt. Richard Blankenship said.
Police did not know how Garcia was able to leave the station unnoticed.
A police helicopter searched the area around the station, but Garcia was not found by nightfall. Police said they had addresses where Garcia might be found.
