Sheriff’s deputies have arrested two men and a teen-age boy who authorities said followed a Mission Viejo man for 40 miles before robbing him at gunpoint of his $10,000 Rolex watch and an undisclosed amount of cash.

Allan Wendell Carter, 23, Maurice Tyrone Smith, 19, and a 16-year-old boy, all of Los Angeles, were arrested on suspicion of armed robbery Monday night, Sheriff’s Lt. Larry Abbott said Tuesday.

David Terrell, a Mission Viejo salesman, said he had just parked his car in front of his house when two armed men confronted him about 8:20 p.m. Monday.

“I told them that I didn’t have anything they would want,” said Terrell, 41. “But they said that they’ve been following me since I left a restaurant in the city of Commerce. They told me to give them the watch and money or else they would kill me.”

“I’ve read enough about Rolex robberies . . . so I decided to cooperate,” Terrell said.

Terrell later gave the license plate number of the suspects’ car to arriving deputies, Abbott said. Deputies stopped the vehicle on MacArthur Boulevard near the San Diego Freeway and arrested the three suspects without incident.

Abbott said deputies recovered two handguns, including one that had been tossed out of the vehicle onto the freeway.

Terrell, who expects to have his watch back soon, said he will sell the watch, which he received as a present from a business associate about three years ago.

“I’m not taking any chances. I’m going to be wearing a Timex for the rest of my life.”
