One of the fastest-rising movies on the Billboard magazine rental chart this year, “Pretty Woman” jumped to No. 1 from No. 27, toppling “Glory.” The romantic comedy co-starring Richard Gere and Julia Roberts is also available for sale at $20--but often discounted down to $15. Since many potential renters will buy this one instead, “Pretty Woman” may not last long at the top of the rental chart. Those “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” are having the same problem. That movie, which slipped a notch to No. 3, is selling for less than $20 in many places, attracting more buyers than renters. “Q&A;,” the cop drama starring Nick Nolte, debuted at No. 10.

* “The First Power” is off to a great start, jumping to No. 8 in just two weeks on the rental chart. Though many have never heard of it, this combination horror thriller and cop drama starring Lou Diamond Phillips quietly grossed more than $21 million and was particularly popular with the young audience. It should rent well this Halloween season.
