Noriega Advances in Volvo Event
Jose Luis Noriega, a University of San Diego junior from Lima, Peru, advanced to the second round of the 1990 Volvo Tennis/Collegiate Championships Thursday in Athens, Ga. A two-time All-American and the tournament’s No. 3 seed, Noriega, who is ranked fourth nationally, defeated unseeded Chris Gambino of Arizona State, 6-3, 6-2.
Noriega’s second-round opponent today is unseeded David Hopper of South Carolina.
The tournament, being played at the University of Georgia, continues through Sunday. It is the first leg of the collegiate grand slam.
