GOLF ROUNDUP : Massey Shoots Record 64, Wins When Rains Come

Debbie Massey won the $550,000 Mazda Japan Classic, the final tournament on the LPGA Tour, when the last round was canceled because of rain Sunday at Hanno, Japan.

Massey, who shot a course-record 64 on Saturday, won by three strokes for her first victory in 11 years and the third of her career. She won $82,500, giving her more than $1 million in lifetime earnings.

Massey started the Saturday’s round three shots behind first-round leader Nancy Brown, birdied the first three holes. She added five other birdies and no bogeys to finish at 11-under-par 133.

Caroline Keggi scored six birdies and two bogeys on the way to a 68, and Danielle Ammaccapane had six birdies and one bogey en route to a 67 to share second place at 136.

Bob Gilder scored 38 points for a one-point lead after three rounds of the $538,000 Acom P.T. tournament at Ayamacho, Japan.

Gilder, one point ahead of six others sharing second place after two rounds, birdied four holes against one double bogey to bring his score for the first three days to 115 under the modified Stableford scoring system.

Bob Tway was second at 114 after a 39 on Saturday.

Bob Lohr holed a 105-yard sand wedge for an eagle-3 on the final hole to take a two-shot lead after three rounds of the Mexican Open at Mexico City.

Lohr’s eagle on the 593-yard, par-5 18th hole completed a five-under-par 67 for a 54-hole total of 202.

Carlos Pelaez of Mexico, Steve Elkington of Australia, Andrew Magee and Carlos Espinoza of Mexico were tied for second at 204.
