A Guide to the Best of Southern California : ANTIQUES : Pillows From the Past

Share

“I RECYCLE THE PAST,” says Myrna Kaplan, describing her luxurious antique pillows. Made predominantly of 18th- and 19th-Century fabrics--brocades, silks and beaded embroideries--Divination’s custom-made pillows (which range in size from 12x16 inches to 26-inch squares and in price from $600 to $1,800) are interfaced for support, trimmed in antique braids, ribbons and tassels and filled with soft, cushiony down. Fabrics come from around the globe.

“In an urban world where most of us are surrounded by glass and steel,” Kaplan says, “people want to cocoon-in and make things soft and cushy, because it isn’t soft and cushy out there.”

Divination antique pillows are available at Randolph & Hein, Pacific Design Center, 8687 Melrose Ave., Los Angeles; (213) 855-1222.
