One-Two Punch: Randy Taraborelli, author of an unflattering biography of Diana Ross, says superstar Michael Jackson misled the public in his autobiography in suggesting he had romantic liaisons with Ross, Tatum O’Neal and Brooke Shields. He said Ross was “furious” when she read the book, but now may be Jackson’s turn to be furious: Taraborelli is writing a book on him.

Paper Tiger: British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, known for her strident public performances and her imperious style, shrinks from watching herself on TV at home. “If the news comes on and it is something about me, I will say, ‘Turn it off.’ ” But family members often want to see it, “ . . . so I have to go out,” said Thatcher.

Failed Campaign: Former senator and presidential candidate George McGovern and his partners in a hotel have filed a Chapter 11 bankruptcy petition. McGovern and his partners in the Bridgeport, Conn., Stratford Inn filed the petition late last week in U.S. Bankruptcy Court. “It was done to buy enough time to reorganize,” said an attorney for the partnership.

Time Enough: Watergate burglar and former FBI agent G. Gordon Liddy says his transformation from convict to novelist is not surprising because prison gave him what he needed to write. “The thing you need to write is time--I had lots of it,” Liddy, 60, said Monday during a visit to Alaska to plug his newest novel, “The Monkey Handlers.” Liddy served time after being convicted of participating in the 1972 burglary of the Democratic Party’s Watergate headquarters.
