Council OKs Study of New Disney Park
The City Council has approved an agreement with Disney officials to begin a study of the environmental effects of a proposed second Disney theme park.
The nearly $30,000 contract approved Tuesday with Michael Brandman Associates for the study follows more than a year of talks. The study will detail the project’s effects on the 1,040 acres surrounding Disneyland, where the company owns 70% of the property.
It is expected to take about one year, and Disney is expected to reimburse the city for the cost.
Earlier this year, Disney officials unveiled plans for a $2.8-billion water theme park in Long Beach, and have since maintained its plans to also build an addition to the Anaheim park.
The area to be studied has been under a city-imposed building moratorium since May, and that freeze is scheduled to continue until next September.
