‘Crew’ Brings Its Rap Act to the Celebrity

Share

2 Live Crew will be rolling into the Celebrity Theatre tonight on the heels of an uneventful show Wednesday at Los Angeles’ Club Vertigo (see accompanying review). As of Thursday afternoon, there were plenty of tickets available for the Anaheim show, according to the Celebrity box office.

The rap group, recently acquitted of obscenity charges in Florida, canceled an appearance in Anaheim last July at the height of a national controversy over its lyrics and on-stage behavior.

Anaheim police say they are planning no special coverage of the concert tonight.

“It’s just another entertainment thing,” a department spokesman said. “We get them all the time.”

Despite the acquittal, controversy surrounding the group, best known for its recording “As Nasty as They Wanna Be,” continues. A pay-per-view concert by the Crew, scheduled for last night, was canceled by Choice Entertainment last month when the group failed to show up for a press conference to promote the cable broadcast.
