Coliseum Toughens Policy on Beer Sales at Games
The Coliseum Commission has followed through on a plan revealed earlier to impose tougher policies on beer sales at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in an effort to curb fan violence during football games.
The commission voted this week to sell beer with only 3.2% alcohol content and only in 12-ounce cups. It also ordered that beer sales be halted after halftime.
Previously, the stadium sold 3.6% beer in 16-ounce cups and sales continued until the end of the third quarter.
“We are hopeful that these new policies will help eliminate the tragic situations of violence in the stands,” said Los Angeles County Supervisor Mike Antonovich, who spearheaded the alcohol policy and had earlier announced plans for the restrictions.
In September, a Pittsburgh Steelers fan from Arizona was beaten and seriously injured at a Raiders football game.
