CS Long Beach Risks Home Perfection Against Northridge
Cal State Long Beach, 4-0 at home this season, will play Cal State Northridge in a nonconference football game today at 1 p.m. in Veterans Stadium.
The 49ers (4-5) need to finish with two victories or one victory and a tie to prevent Coach George Allen from having his first losing season since 1954 when he was at Whittier College.
Allen said that to beat Northridge (7-2), the 49ers must stop tailback Albert Fann. But Fann, who has run for 918 yards and caught 28 passes, may not play because of a sprained ankle.
Long Beach will be without its top defensive player, linebacker Pepper Jenkins, who was suspended this week for violating team rules. Jenkins was averaging 10 tackles a game.
Junior quarterback Todd Studer has passed for 2,133 yards and 15 touchdowns in his first season with the 49ers.
The 49ers defeated the Division II Matadors, 28-9, last season.
