PRO FOOTBALL REPORT / WEEKDAY UPDATE : RAIDERS : Blocked Punts Have Proved Costly
The Raider punting team has been inconsistent this season, giving up two blocked punts.
Buffalo wide receiver Steve Tasker blocked Jeff Gossett’s punt, which led to a touchdown, as the Bills came from behind and beat the Raiders, 38-24, last month at Orchard Park, N.Y. And the Kansas City Chiefs blocked a punt, which led to a field goal, in a 9-7 victory over the Raiders last Sunday at Kansas City.
“It was just a matter of a guy missing an assignment last week,” Coach Art Shell said. “Everything has to be perfect on punts.”
Gene Upshaw, executive director of the NFL Players Assn., met with the Raiders to update them on the NFLPA’s continuing legal battles with the league.
A Hall of Fame guard, Upshaw is here to participate in a pregame ceremony Sunday in which Ted Hendricks will be presented his Hall of Fame ring.
