Dewell Brewer ran for 87 yards and a touchdown in the first half Saturday, helping Oklahoma open an early lead on its way to a listless 34-7 Big Eight victory over Kansas State.

Oklahoma, 7-3 overall and 4-2 in the Big Eight, didn’t make a first down in the second half until six minutes remained in the fourth quarter. The Sooners’ first five possessions of the second half lasted three plays or fewer and totaled minus 10 yards.

Kansas State (5-5, 2-4) drove into scoring position with its first three possessions of the second half. But two of the drives ended with missed field goals and the third was stalled by sacks and penalties.

Oklahoma wound up with 333 yards of offense, only 11 more than the Wildcats, who were four-touchdown underdogs.

Brewer, who finished with 91 yards in 18 carries, scored on a 14-yard option run with 1:58 left in the first half to give the Sooners the 27-7 lead. It was his only carry of the drive, which started at the Oklahoma 45 and was helped by a 29-yard completion from Cale Gundy to Greg Ervin.

Gundy had scored the Sooners’ first touchdown on a one-yard sneak to cap the first drive of the day. Gundy completed two passes for 32 yards on a second-quarter drive that ended with a one-yard touchdown run by Kenyon Rasheed. Oklahoma also had field goals of 42 and 27 yards by R.D. Lashar.
