FULLERTON : Suspect Sought in Assault on Transient
Police are looking for a transient suspected of using a hammer to strike another transient on the head, seriously injuring the man.
The victim, Alberto Garcia Burgos, 41, was in critical but stable condition at UCI Medical Center in Orange, Police Lt. Tony Hernandez said.
Police are seeking Antonio Mercado, 26, on suspicion of attempted murder.
Garcia Burgos was attacked in the 4000 block of West Franklin Avenue as he returned from a store with a friend at 9:20 p.m. Sunday, Hernandez said.
The attacker struck Garcia Burgos four times on the head with a hammer before fleeing, Hernandez said.
The attack apparently grew out of a 10-day-old dispute, Hernandez said.
Both men lived in garages in the 4000 block of Franklin Avenue, Hernandez said.
