Despite winning its final three football games on the road and finishing 7-2 for the second year in a row, the University of San Diego was not selected to participate in the NCAA Division III playoffs. Of 288 schools, only 16 are selected.

With big victories over Azusa Pacific, 21-10, and Menlo College, 28-14, in their last two games, the Toreros were under consideration for their first berth since 1973. Redlands, which defeated USD, 28-14, earlier in the year, finished 8-1 and was the only West Coast school to make the playoffs, which begin Saturday.
